Open Labour candidates pledge solidarity, equality and free movement for migrants
Posted: 14 June 2020
As part of this year’s internal elections to Open Labour and Momentum, and we have reached out to all candidates to pledge that, if elected within their respective Labour Party organisations, they will campaign to put into action the migrants’ rights and free movement policy that received an almost unanimous vote from delegates of local parties, trade unions and affiliates at September’s Labour Party conference. This means campaigning to bring their own organisation, and therefore the Labour Party as a whole, fully and unconditionally behind the fight against anti-migrant politics.
We have been delighted by the support we’ve already seen, and more continue to add their names. We invite all candidates to sign the pledge by emailing info@labourfreemovement.org!
Here we list the names of all Open Labour candidates who have already pledged.
As a candidate for Open Labour Committee, I am excited to support the policy of solidarity, equality and free movement for migrants that our members and affiliates overwhelmingly approved at Labour Conference in September last year.
If elected, I will campaign for Open Labour, and for the Labour Party as a whole, to stand for the following:
- Defend and extend free movement
- Oppose any reduction in the freedoms of UK and EU citizens to live, work, and access social security in each others’ countries, and any immigration system based on incomes, migrants’ utility to business, and number caps or targets.
- Close every detention centre.
- Ensure unconditional rights to family reunion.
- End “no recourse to public funds” policies.
- Scrap all Hostile Environment measures, use of landlords and public service providers as border guards, and restrictions on migrants’ NHS access.
- Extend equal rights to vote to all UK residents.
